Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Privacy Laws

Mandated DADS Contract Employee and Volunteer HIPAA Training

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) policy require that certain Texas Department on Ageing and Disability Services (DADS) contract employees and volunteers receive privacy and security training. For DADS State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs) employees this training is available through iLearn. For DADS non-SSLC employees it is available through CAPPS System Training Solutions.

This requirement applies to:

  • A contract employee — an individual engaged by DADS to provide a specific set of services and perform duties that would otherwise be completed by DADS staff.
  • A volunteer — an individual, who gives freely of their time, compassion, and skills to enrich the lives of the individuals served by DADS.

HIPAA Privacy Training

All contract employees and volunteers, as described above, must take HIPAA privacy training. If their services are continued, they may be asked to take the training again. Click here to take the privacy training.

Security Training

Only those contract employees and volunteers with access to DADS automated systems are required to take HHS Computer Usage and Information Security Training. Click here to take the security training.
