Contractors must take reasonable steps to ensure people with limited English proficiency (LEP) are able to access SNAP-Ed services. A person with LEP is someone who does not (or has limited ability to) read, speak, write, or understand English. Contractors who do not provide services to people with LEP may be discriminating against them based on their national origin.
Contractors can ensure language access by:
- Providing free over-the-phone or in-person interpreter services.
- Providing printed materials and information on websites in languages other than English, as needed.
