Interpreter and Translation Services

Professional qualified interpreters and competent bilingual staff can be used to interpret. To ensure bilingual staff are competent, SNAP-Ed contractors can have competent bilingual staff test other bilingual staff. Contractors should not use friends and family to interpret unless the person with LEP prefers them to interpret. Minor children may not be used to interpret except in emergency situations.

To ensure an interpreter is present when needed, presenters and educators should plan these services in advance.

The contractor’s bilingual staff may not be competent to translate written materials. Online translation applications and software are not always accurate. Using qualified translators or translation vendors with qualified staff is best.

Contractors should rely on professional qualified interpreters and competent bilingual staff rather than using friends and family to interpret.
