Rule: What is a food allergy emergency plan?
Minimum standard rules for child care centers and homes (chapters 744, 746 & 747) identify the food allergy emergency plan as an individualized plan prepared by the child's health care professional, which must include a list of each food the child is allergic to, possible symptoms if exposed to food on the list and steps to take if the child has an allergic reaction.
How should the food allergy emergency plan look?

|
There are no requirements that specify formatting of the food allergy emergency plan. Some health care professionals may have their own templates for child allergy plans. Operations may create and maintain formatting for food allergy emergency plans too. Regardless of the format, we will be evaluating these plans to ensure they include the required allergy information.

Technical Assistance:
For children with multiple diagnosed food allergies, consider the following:
- If the child's food allergies present similar symptoms and are remedied with the same medication, they can be included on the same food allergy emergency plan.
- If the child's food allergies present different symptoms, levels of severity or different medications and dosages, consider separate plans.
